Feeling well-fed post-leg one of the flights. My only complaint was the "rule" to keep the window shades down the whole time! I did sneak a few peeks, catching a glimpse of Alaska's melting glaciers. My first sight of China, through the thick smog, was a floating traffic jam of ships and barges stacked with shipping containers filled with goods for export. Next, was a welcoming farm of wind turbines lining the coast, accompanied by a tranquil Classical Chinese music soundtrack. I already feel the juices getting prepped to write for the next few weeks: senses sharpening, eyes wide like a newborn - my cabinmate even guessed that I was a journalist within the first minute of introductions! In the customs line, I met Shaggy's previous drummer - not too shabby of a connection! Luckily I'm not hungry because the spicy duck tongue snacks for sale are not piquing my appetite. Katelyn has landed so I am awaiting her successful passage through customs before we hit the hotel - I can see her - so close! 11pm!

I remember that feeling of finally landing in Thailand, tired from the journey, hotter than you expected, and wonderfully disoriented by such a different culture. The warm hospitality is something to behold, and after a long night's sleep, you are ready to absorb it all. It seems so long ago to me, and also seems like yesterday. Enjoy these first moments of Thailand, as they only happen once.

Thanks, Tim. Well-said! So far, I've seemed to dismiss any signs of jet-lag ?. Absorbing this new culture, feeling more like a student of life than ever.
